Hey David… are you on YouTube? it would be cool if you took some video of your works.

Thanks for the compliment. Coming from you that’s a real honor. I am on you tube. I’ve been working on a video to upload there. I really need to get some better equipment (Camcorder).

Once again, AMAZING work !
Just would know how many pieces you need at all ? ( or just an approximation, ’cause with the little side of pieces, i have no idea )
Also, have you plan to make a tutorial ;D ? I think a LOOOOOT of persons would to 😉

I’m guessing probably around 5000 pieces. As far as doing a tutorial, I wouldn’t even know where to start. Most of my models are designed as I go. I suppose if I were to make several of them I might be able to do it. I kind of like not having a diagram to work with. It gives me more freedom to do what ever I want with it. Thanks for the…[Read more]

Ok ^^, i gonna try to make something with these littles pieces 🙂
Continue to make us dream with your news creations !!-
I would start with something easy. try to see the basic shapes involved. It will help you understand what you need to do. I also recommend studying a few pictures of the subject and keep them handy for reference.

Hello. It is a wonderful job. My son is fond of dinosaurs and want to have one. What size in inches are the pieces? Have diagram? Thank you very much. I hope you do not mind
-
Sorry. Me like to know the size of the room in centimeter not inches
-
-
This is wonderful, an example of what to achieve.

You are most welcome. Yeah looking at these pics is like looking at your work for the first time again. I was truly impressed the first time… but this time I’m blown away… even your serpent looks 100% better in HD. From the old pics I really had no idea how awesome it really was. Yeah when I first looked up 3d origami on the internet I barely found a thing on it… so from all the searches I did I started blogging about it. now this website is one of the top search results on search engines when looking for 3d origami and it’s even listed in wikipedia 🙂 I’m like you I can’t wait till they start teaching it in schools.…[Read more]

It’s all due to your hard work and talent that we have gotten as far as we have. For that I could never repay you. I always do my best to promote this site. If there is anything I can do to help, all you need do is ask.
-
You can send me one of your dinosaurs 😉 jk… but not really
-
Can we have a rating system where then you can add an extra setting to the album 🙂
-
Is this feature to rate artworks?
-
yeah, so members can rate your 3D Origami out of 10. Then you can have a section in the album for highest rated. This way you can quickly show the world what this site has to show 🙂 In addition, you can also have like an Origami of the week/month thing 😛

Nope I dont mind. What other stuff are you willing to sell? 🙂

I’ve never sold one. Don’t know what to charge if I did. Make me an offer and we can go from there. I’m not much of a money monger.

Wow! I love parrot. Intelligent, beatiful bird but I love them cause their face look like always smile, fun. When I look at photo about couple parrot, they’r look always happy. Your work always make me smile 🙂 and envy he he 😀 ( just a little because I admire you)
-
your work is very beautiful also. !!!! 😀
-
-
wow you’re really amazing when it comes to designing such detailed pieces! how i wish i can make beautiful art like those in the future.. ^v^
-
You can !! As long as you don’t convince yourself before you start, that you can’t. All you have to do is try. If you make a mistake, learn from it and try again. I have a whole box full of failed projects. I’ve learned something from every one that I’ve tried.
-
-
How many peices consist of each color? This is amazing!
-
I’m just guessing, mostly because I lost count of the number of each. but I would say around 4000 yellow and blue. maybe 200 white, and around 100 each blue and black (not counting the beak). The beak is made of magazine paper (to give it a different look from the rest) I believe I used about 200 pieces for it.
-
How many rows are in the Wings and Body?
-
Oh and the legs and tail 😛 Thanks for the help. Much appreciated! 🙂
-
wings – about 60 rows / tail – 100 / body 100 / legs 50. that’s just an estimate. I haven’t counted.
-
Okay thanks that helps a ton! 🙂 ill post a picture on my profile once i get it done! 🙂 🙂

wow,,,you are truly the master origami

you are the master of the origami parrots 😀 that’s awesome and amazing , good job dave

Thank you Estrella !!! 🙂
-
-
WOW! you are very talented in 3D origami. Envious of your skills and patience. You might want to invest the time to take pictures of your work in better lighting/environment. I feel like the pictures don’t do enough justice to what the model is like in real life.
but anyways, good job!! looking forward to your future works 🙂 -
Amazing job. I expect nothing less. =P

-
I’d probably end up with arthritis !!! LOL
-
-
I love it!!!! it’s difficult to do??? how many pieces?? very beatiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
-
Thank you !!! it took 14 weeks to complete and every trick I know, plus a few new ones. I has about 8000 pieces, may be more. I lost count.
-
-
Lovely David, it’s always been one of my favorite birds ^^
-
Thank you Danielle !!! Mine too !!!
-
-
looks so real, I like the wings , it’s more beautiful then the red one , congratulations dave, you are a great artist
-
Thank you Estrella !!! I’m really enjoying making birds.
-
-
Thank you so much !!! I taught myself how to make them. the first thing you need to do is get comfortable with the art form. Make as many things as you can find diagrams for. Then try a few of your own ideas. keep them simple at first and then expand from there.
-
This is amazing, it’s incredible!
-
YOU are so good 😀

I Had so much fun making this one I almost hated to stop working on it. I Think I might try another tropical bird in the near future.

So realistic!

That’s really amazing! Your fingers must be sore though. =P

after a while I got used to that size. I am as amazed as you are. Everything seemed to fall together just right.

speechlesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
wwwwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww omg amazing very nice work mr foos! beautifullllllll
look like real very impressssssssss congradulation very very very nice…….. 🙂 -
what puzzles me is the thickness of triangles you used for the legs… a bird that size must weigh a lot… it amazes me how the legs are still standing 😛
But a veeeeeerrrryyyy good design (Y) would love to see how your future models would look-
would you guys like to join my group 3d origami kingdom it’s about latest projects
-
I’ll check it out.
-
-
actually the feet are made of a heavy floral wire, wrapped in floral tape and then painted. I have yet to figure out how to do it with paper.
-
smart move… if it were done the similarly to DreamMysts chocobo legs, they would have collapsed
-
no question
-
-
-
-
this is so beautiful
-
Thank you. I had a lot of fun making it.
-
-
is the pieces used here for body, wings and beak are the same size used for the parrot?
-
In the first one (the parrot) I used 1cm x 2cm for the beak, 2cm x 4 cm for the body and 2.5cm x 5cm for the wings. Since the wings were part of the body I needed to make the pieces bigger so they would stand out against the body and give it more of a 3D look.
The second one (the Macaw) on the other hand used almost all 2cm x 4cm pieces, except…[Read more]

-
is the same technique used in parrot? i.e., is the wings continuous part of the body? and the body flows under the wings is empty?
-
It is. The wings are a part of the body at the top, where the neck meets the center of the wings. Then the body flows around a gag under the wing and reconnects with the rest of the body. If you could see under the wings you’d see a square opening about an inch wide by 3 incest long. I left that spot open to keep from pushing the wings up higher…[Read more]

please do post some more pictures of macaw as well as parrot.

the feather look in the wings are excellent and very realistic, no doubt that you are an excellent 3DO artist, i think there is lot more to learn from you mr.Foos.

As crazy as it sounds (or maybe not) I think I have a lot more to learn also.

The Body is made up of 2cm by 4cm pieces. the wings and tail use 2.5cm by 5cm pieces.
-
The beak looks awesome.
-
That was the hardest part. Those pieces are 1.5cm by 3cm. It’s hard on your fingers.
-
The effort really paid off. =]
-
Thank you.
-
i know it s hard for fingers…. i have a surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome last month cause by repetitive movement not for origami 3d because i just start to make 3d origami but it was for repetitive movement in my handling work like my last job…… Now i have my surgery on tow hands and it was better for work on origami units…..
-
with the vase wowowowow what a lot of work.
-
-
-
-
-
-
i like it very much
-
What was the base number of triangles used for the body (just above where the wings start)? And the base number at the end of the bird’s head
-
38 pieces on the row right above the wings. 35 at the end of the head
-
or were you talking about where the beak begins? If so it’s 24 pieces there. They are all 2cm by 4cm.
-
thanks, I’m gonna attempt to make a red and blue one 😀
-
If you need help let me know. Always happy to help a fellow artist.
-
thanks, its going well atm, ive sized it down and changed the colours to red and blue… but for some reason it looks more like an Angry Bird bird now lol

I’m sure it looks fine.

Thanks for the hugs !!! Curving the head wasn’t simple. Once I finish my current project, I’m going to make another, only this time I plan to take step by step pics. I’ve been wanting to do a tutorial on it for a while.

That would be great!

I had a lot of fun making this one. Thank you for the encouragement.
-
-
Wow… you make the greatest shapes ever. The forms and shapes you use for your pieces are so cool… it’s almost as if there isn’t a shape you can’t make. So different then the standard circular shapes.
-
I guess it comes from studying the piece like a drawing. You have to figure out what basic shapes are involved and work from there.
-
this takes 3d origami to another level

Absolutely !

How’s your project coming along? I just started folding pieces 3cm x 1cm. Gonna try to attempt to make a dragon. Also trying to attempt making some angry birds
-
It’s coming along fine so far, still working the the wings. I’m folding pieces at a rate of about 1000 per week. progress is slow but I’m really satisfied with the results so far. It’s still a couple of weeks out yet. I’ll post an update pic once I finish with the wings.

That’s amazing trick to use a thick paper, thanks Danniele and thanks David.
it doesn’t take a lot of physical strength to make them that small, just very steady hands and a lot of patience.
Wow… what are you going to make??
I went back to my favorite subject. Dinosaurs. This is a different type. I hope to be finished in a week or so.
very cool
hi ! really impressive, does the struture is solid at the end with so little pieces ?
absolutely. By the time they’re connected they become like a light weight piece of wood.
Is there a trick to cut them and fold them because when I do it it takes forever
i use a rotary paper cutter. it’s quick and easy. it only cost me $20.00
Useing half thickness pieces you get the same size triangles only thicker?
only less thicker
much thinner. half the thickness of the regular units
