I Had so much fun making this one I almost hated to stop working on it. I Think I might try another tropical bird in the near future.
-
So realistic!
-
That’s really amazing! Your fingers must be sore though. =P
-
after a while I got used to that size. I am as amazed as you are. Everything seemed to fall together just right.

speechlesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
wwwwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww omg amazing very nice work mr foos! beautifullllllll
look like real very impressssssssss congradulation very very very nice…….. 🙂 -
what puzzles me is the thickness of triangles you used for the legs… a bird that size must weigh a lot… it amazes me how the legs are still standing 😛
But a veeeeeerrrryyyy good design (Y) would love to see how your future models would look-
would you guys like to join my group 3d origami kingdom it’s about latest projects
-
I’ll check it out.
-
-
actually the feet are made of a heavy floral wire, wrapped in floral tape and then painted. I have yet to figure out how to do it with paper.
-
smart move… if it were done the similarly to DreamMysts chocobo legs, they would have collapsed
-
no question

this is so beautiful
-
Thank you. I had a lot of fun making it.

is the pieces used here for body, wings and beak are the same size used for the parrot?
-
In the first one (the parrot) I used 1cm x 2cm for the beak, 2cm x 4 cm for the body and 2.5cm x 5cm for the wings. Since the wings were part of the body I needed to make the pieces bigger so they would stand out against the body and give it more of a 3D look.
The second one (the Macaw) on the other hand used almost all 2cm x 4cm pieces, except…[Read more]

is the same technique used in parrot? i.e., is the wings continuous part of the body? and the body flows under the wings is empty?
-
It is. The wings are a part of the body at the top, where the neck meets the center of the wings. Then the body flows around a gag under the wing and reconnects with the rest of the body. If you could see under the wings you’d see a square opening about an inch wide by 3 incest long. I left that spot open to keep from pushing the wings up higher…[Read more]

please do post some more pictures of macaw as well as parrot.
-
the feather look in the wings are excellent and very realistic, no doubt that you are an excellent 3DO artist, i think there is lot more to learn from you mr.Foos.
-
As crazy as it sounds (or maybe not) I think I have a lot more to learn also.
-
-
DAYUUUUUUMM 🙂 You are so good 😀

The Body is made up of 2cm by 4cm pieces. the wings and tail use 2.5cm by 5cm pieces.
-
The beak looks awesome.
-
That was the hardest part. Those pieces are 1.5cm by 3cm. It’s hard on your fingers.
-
The effort really paid off. =]
-
Thank you.
-
i know it s hard for fingers…. i have a surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome last month cause by repetitive movement not for origami 3d because i just start to make 3d origami but it was for repetitive movement in my handling work like my last job…… Now i have my surgery on tow hands and it was better for work on origami units…..
-
with the vase wowowowow what a lot of work.

-
i like it very much
-
What was the base number of triangles used for the body (just above where the wings start)? And the base number at the end of the bird’s head
-
38 pieces on the row right above the wings. 35 at the end of the head
-
or were you talking about where the beak begins? If so it’s 24 pieces there. They are all 2cm by 4cm.
-
thanks, I’m gonna attempt to make a red and blue one 😀
-
If you need help let me know. Always happy to help a fellow artist.
-
thanks, its going well atm, ive sized it down and changed the colours to red and blue… but for some reason it looks more like an Angry Bird bird now lol
-
I’m sure it looks fine.
-
woooo thanks to you, ive managed to make a parrot xD I’m gonna go upload it now 🙂

Its amazing! But how did you made the curve of the head? I just don’t get it.
Hugs from Holland!-
Thanks for the hugs !!! Curving the head wasn’t simple. Once I finish my current project, I’m going to make another, only this time I plan to take step by step pics. I’ve been wanting to do a tutorial on it for a while.
-
That would be great!

-
I had a lot of fun making this one. Thank you for the encouragement.

-
Wow… you make the greatest shapes ever. The forms and shapes you use for your pieces are so cool… it’s almost as if there isn’t a shape you can’t make. So different then the standard circular shapes.
-
I guess it comes from studying the piece like a drawing. You have to figure out what basic shapes are involved and work from there.
-
this takes 3d origami to another level
-
Absolutely !
-
-
-
-
Do you have a diagram for this? If not can you tell me where to find one

Amazing !

it’s incredible too see!!

How’s your project coming along? I just started folding pieces 3cm x 1cm. Gonna try to attempt to make a dragon. Also trying to attempt making some angry birds
-
It’s coming along fine so far, still working the the wings. I’m folding pieces at a rate of about 1000 per week. progress is slow but I’m really satisfied with the results so far. It’s still a couple of weeks out yet. I’ll post an update pic once I finish with the wings.
Good luck on the dragon, I can’t wait to see what you come up with. I know it…[Read more]-
Please tell me how did you attach the wings to the body. I can’t figure it out! 🙁 I would love to make it.

I’ll try to upload more pics as soon as possible.
WOW that is a live one right? polly wana cracker? that is super awesome mr foos u r a real artist and the best one out there 🙂 great work i love it
Thank you so much. It really means a lot to me !! 😀
unreal, you are gifted!!!
Wow David! Simply Spectacular! Can’t wait to see a pic of the front. 14 weeks! There must be over 10,000 pieces
Thank you. I’ll try to post more tonight.
amazing as I said on DA!! What happens when you work at a project for a year? *shudders*
I’d probably end up with arthritis !!! LOL
I love it!!!! it’s difficult to do??? how many pieces?? very beatiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Thank you !!! it took 14 weeks to complete and every trick I know, plus a few new ones. I has about 8000 pieces, may be more. I lost count.
Lovely David, it’s always been one of my favorite birds ^^
Thank you Danielle !!! Mine too !!!
looks so real, I like the wings , it’s more beautiful then the red one , congratulations dave, you are a great artist
Thank you Estrella !!! I’m really enjoying making birds.
Thank you so much !!! I taught myself how to make them. the first thing you need to do is get comfortable with the art form. Make as many things as you can find diagrams for. Then try a few of your own ideas. keep them simple at first and then expand from there.
This is amazing, it’s incredible!
YOU are so good 😀
