SpotLight! 3DO Network Artist David Foos

The moment David uploaded a photo of a Dinosaur he created out of 3D Origami I knew he was a special artist.  At first I saw a thumbnail and didn’t think it was 3D Origami, but after I clicked on the link I was truly amazed!  You can tell David pays very close attention to detail in his artwork.

Because there was so much detail and different type shapes to David’s dinosaurs I had to ask him what scale the model was and what size paper he used and he said it’s about 32″ long by 18″ high. It’s made up of mostly 3cm x 6cm pieces, the plates on the back are 2cm x 4cm.  That’s almost 3 feet long and more than 1 foot high!  This is definitely one of the best and biggest 3D Origami Dinosaurs I’ve ever seen and a true master piece.

So then I clicked onto his album and saw all his wonderful works of
art and knew he had to be a Featured Artist.  Here’s David’s Bio:

David Foos

I’m 49 years old. I live and work in Washington D.C. As a conductor
for a passenger railroad.  My enthusiasm for origami started in the
early 90s. I started out with traditional origami folding then switch
to modular origami when I discovered a book by Tomoko Fuse. After going
as far as I could with that style I began looking or other techniques.
I tried Origami flowers and a few other styles until I found a book on
3DO about 6 years ago and have been hooked ever since. I’ve obtained
several books on the subject and tried just about everything in them.
They make great gifts and I’ve made a lot of friends as a result. After
a few years of doing other artist’s diagrams I decided to strike out on
my own and try a few ideas I had. I wasn’t very successful at first but
each piece was a learning experience. I learned a lot about the style
and myself. I have never been so amazed with the results. I’ve never
had any formal art training, which makes it even more amazing. I hope
anyone interested has as much fun with it as I do.

I would like to personally thank David for being a part of the 3DO
Artist Network and hopes he continues to amaze us with his wonderful
works of art.
